On Tuesday June 28, 2010, Denver area scooterists can watch an advanced screening of the new Tom Hanks/Julia Roberts movie for free if you ride your scooter to the movie screening.
Larry Crowne features scooters and a 'scooter gang' so Universal Studios is treating scooter riders to this special screening to generate some buzz. Adam at Sportique Scooters is organizing the scooter ride from their Denver store. Those planning on riding need to send him an RSVP by Monday to get the free ticket.
For more details and Adam's email address for sending your RSVP, you'll need to head to Sportique's Facebook page. Tell all your scooter riding friends - let's pack downtown Denver with scooters.
The ride leaves Sportique promptly at 5:30 pm on Tuesday. Don't be late or you don't get your free ticket.

Stolen Scooter? Use your Facebook Account
It appears a scooter thief in Florida picked the wrong scooter to steal. With a Facebook account and a bevy of Facebook friends, she got her scooter back.
The entire story can be read at The Orlando Sentinel.
The story demonstrates how social networking is effective in a major metropolitan area. It does help if one has pictures of the scooter to post and the VIN number.

Sportique Scooters now repairs mainland chinese scooters
With scooters, one either pays for a quality scooter upfront or pays for repair on the back end with a cheap mainland chinese scooter.
Those with cheap chinese scooters have three options. Repair it yourself, pay someone to repair it, or sell it to some unsuspecting soul.
Quality scooter repair isn't cheap and neither are the scooter parts. The lost time in using the scooter defeats the whole purpose of using a scooter to save money on commuting expenses.
Despite the poor construction and metal quality of mainland chinese scooters, Sportique Scooters is now repairing them in the Denver area. They do still reserve the right to limit which chinese scooters they will repair. The parts on some of these scooters just fall apart when trying to repair them.
If your mainland chinese scooter needs repairing, and I'm sure it will, see if Sportique Scooters can work it into their repair shop schedule. They've performed quality maintenance on my Vespa for years.

Misleading Colorado Craigslist scooter advertisements regarding license requirements
Some of the current Denver and Boulder Craigslist scooter advertisements look like slow motion disasters waiting to happen. A number of private Colorado scooter sellers are claiming that 50cc and under scooters don't require a drivers license. WRONG!
Anyone who plans on driving any scooter on a Colorado public roadway needs a drivers license and liability insurance. A 50cc scooter operator in Colorado just doesn't need a motorcycle endorsement. A motorcycle endorsement is added to the current drivers license.
If you see an advertisement for a scooter in Colorado claiming that no drivers license is required, run away from the seller. They have no idea what they are talking about. They are probably trying to unload some piece of mainland chinese scooter crap too.
With the price of gasoline going up, more people are checking out scooters again. Just don't be suckered by people claiming "No drivers license required in Colorado" for scooters. That just isn't true.

It's springtime - time to change the scooter oil
If you didn't change your scooter oil before storing it away for the winter last fall, it's time to change the engine oil. Your scooter will thank you for your kindness.
If you own a Vespa ET4 scooter with a Leader engine, I typed up two oil change procedures. One is a written guide while the other is a step by step picture guide.
The written guide can be found at Yahoo! Voices at:

The pictorial guide is posted at Helium.com at:

Have plenty of paper towels and hand cleaner available. Changing the oil can get really messy sometimes.
I like Motul 5w40 300V 4T oil for my scooter. There are several other scooter oil brands around that also provide excellent engine lubrication and protection. Whatever you do, don't scrimp on price for quality oil.
